Spain: Eroski and PGI La Cañada reach agreement on sale of tomatoes

The Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) Tomate La Cañada, from Almeria, Spain, and Eroski have joined forces to supply a better service to their customers, selling tomatoes of the Green salad and Raf varieties under Eroski's own Natur brand.



Eroski's Natur brand was introduced by the chain to expand its range of fresh products and promote their inclusion in the daily diet of consumers. In addition to high quality fruits and vegetables, the brand includes a wide range of meat and fish products, all without any additives or preservatives. The production stages are thoroughly controlled to ensure they have the best organoleptic qualities at the time of consumption.

In the case of PGI La Cañada's tomatoes, Eroski Natur and the Regulatory Board ensure strict quality controls from harvest to store. The product is certified by GlobalGAP and BRC, as well as LMR, which guarantees that the product is free of pesticide residues.

To ensure maximum consumer trust, the product has undergone tastings and ratings, both externally and internally, meeting the strictest requirements in terms of flavour, acidity, fleshiness, size and colour. Both companies are also considering the future inclusion of PGI La Cañada-protected Oxheart tomatoes to Eroski's Natur brand.
