Gardeners Kitchen purchased the machine after conducting trials at their nursery in 2013. When Miquel Ribera of Conic System went to Gardeners Kitchen to teach them how to graft with the Conic machine, he was very impressed by the way the nursery is managed by the Boers family – Helen, Amanda, Ed and parents Philip and Sandra.

Now, with the Grafting Machine in place they will be able to graft tomatoes with ease to join the popular varieties with strong rootstocks to get the best plants.
As soon as Helen has grafted the tomatoes and planted them on, she will take them to the ‘healing room’ with high humidity and heat for a couple of days to help the plants join to the rootstock.
The plants are then moved into the greenhouse, where they mature into sturdy plants, ready for sale.
"When the season is over, we will have a look at grafting other crops, perhaps cucumber might be interesting to graft as well."
