Turkey: Earthquake proof 104,000 m² greenhouse complex at 1,000 metres
A decision has been taken to lay a special foundation on account of the earthquake risk. The greenhouse has a 9.60 m trellis (2x 4.80 m bays), with a 5.00 m section size and a column height of 6.00 m. An automatic choice was then made for clear glass with a high level of light transmission. Polycarbonate of 16 mm was chosen for the outer walls to save energy. A double screen was chosen, one for screening (XLS 35 F Harmony Revolux) and one to save energy (XLS 10 Revolux). The durable Harmonica insect netting system was chosen for the 3-pane ventilation windows.
The Afyon region is also known for its geothermal resources. Warm water is therefore used for heating the greenhouse. This means that the use of fossil energy resources can be reduced to a minimum. In order to make the best possible use of the geothermal energy, the greenhouse heating system has been fitted with a tubular rail heating system and a double growing tube heating system connected in cascade.
The project is being executed by Van der Hoeven's own project managers along with local subcontractor Autar - Ahmet UYSAL Tarım Seracılık Ltd. Şti. A team has been put together by their project managers to supervise the entire project; from launch to completion. Within a few weeks the project is expected to be completed to the extent that it is ready for handing over to the client. Van der Hoeven will then be in the starting blocks again for the next project.
