Traditional Dutch and exotic
The route in Amstelveen will be decorated with beautiful flowers and plants in a way that perfectly suits our traditional Dutch king and his exotic queen, Maxima. At the crossroads where the royal couple alights, there will be two enormous flower arrangements, each about two meters across. One will have a very Dutch feel to it, with a variety of cheerful local flowers and plants, and refers to Willem Alexander. The other arrangement contains many exotic flowers and plants like Strelitzia and refers to our spirited South American, Maxima.Hanging garden
Another part of the route passes through a pergola about 50 meters in diameter. It will be transformed into a hanging garden made of 'hanging baskets', filled with colourful and cheerful bedding plants. It will stay there for months after King's Day, contributing to Amstelveen's wish to remain the greenest municipality in the Netherlands. Hanging baskets are a very popular way to brighten up gardens, balconies and streets. They bring a touch of colour, cheerfulness and happiness to all those who see them.Refreshing, healthy and hip
Flowers are refreshing, healthy and very hip. They are also currently fashionable, as evident in the creations of Oscar de la Renta, Jan Taminiau, Edwin Oudshoorn and brands like Dolce & Gabbana and Zara. The Netherlands is wondering whether the fashion-conscious Maxima will be wreathed in flowers on this first official King's Day.FloraHolland, the flower auction that also supplied the flowers for the coronation in the New Church last year, and the growers are delighted to accept the honour of the invitation to provide the decorations and are busy with their preparations.
