The technical-sales team of Enza Zaden invited producers and traders over to showcase its Galatea F1 courgette crop.
Managers say that "Galatea is the most popular variety for late-spring, summer and early-autumn productions all over Central and Southern Italy thanks to its good tolerance. In addition, the fact that courgettes are really shiny and have an excellent shelf-life means they are considered a high-quality vegetable all over Italy as well as abroad."
These characteristics can also be achieved in greenhouses with transplants from late December onwards.
"In addition to good productivity and the fact that they are early, Galatea courgette plants transplanted in January are not very leafy and are less subject to rotting and fungi. In addition, they are very compact and have short internodes."
Galatea is completely different from the often "tired" produce usually found in supermarkets during this season, which is excellent news to tackle competition from Spain and Morocco.
In addition, the fact that plants are transplanted in January means they have to endure low temperatures for less time and that they do nor overlap with produce from Sicily.
The technical-sales team of Enza Zaden would also like to thank the Avino Giuseppina commercial farm and all those who took part to the open day on 3rd April 2014.
