Flexible orchid plug for transplanting tissue culture seedlings
The unique feature of the “Xcellent Plug-Orchids” is the possibility to transplant tissue culture seedlings in the plug. As a result of the vertical inlay, the roots of the plants will not damage or break thus decreasing the risk of disease entries. An added advantage is that the transplanting is accelerated as a result of the size of the opening. Due to the flexibility of the plug this opening can easily be closed whereby a natural environment is created for the tissue culture plant to establish itself rapidly in the plug from the laboratory phase.
The “Xcellent Plug-Orchids” has a very high air content which is a prerequisite for the good growth of orchids. Additionally this plug can easily be re-saturated with water if the plug has been extremely dry during cultivation. An artificial basket is not necessary as the form of the plug stays in shape even if the cultivation spans a number of years.
The physical features, strength, flexibility, nutrition and pH can be adjusted to suit each specific cultivation or to the needs of the grower. The plug is also suitable for automation.
The “Xcellent Plug-Orchids” fits in a 60-hole tray. If needed, black or transparent trays can also be supplied. Furthermore plugs and trays in other sizes are negotiable.
