Ekompany and Benfried announce cooperation introducing Controlled Release Fertilisers

Ekompany Agro B.V. announces partnership with Benfried International B.V. serving dealers and distributors with specialised coated mineral fertilisers (CRF) for open field horticulture, agriculture, plantation and professional turf nutrition. The scope of the preferred distribution contract will be delivering innovative Controlled Release Fertilisers in specific regions outside the Netherlands, such as Eastern and Central Europe, Africa, South and North America and New Zealand and Australia. ‘Being two Dutch companies with international ambitions and high focus on innovation we see this cooperation as a perfect match, building on each others strengths and potential.’ States Eric van Kaathoven, CEO and founder Ekompany. ‘What makes this cooperation interesting is the flexibility in the portfolio Ekompany can offer as well as the guaranteed quality of their products. We believe we can not only meet the demand for coated fertilisers in existing applications but also expand the use of Controlled Release fertilisation in new areas such as open field vegetable cultivation, agricultural and plantation crops.’ according Fred van Veldhoven, Managing director, Benfried International.

Controlled release fertilisers are an alternative to conventional (uncoated) mineral fertilisers and offer important advantages such as precise plant nutrition, high efficiency and eco-friendliness, as they help avoid leaching and volatilisation of nutrients. With the ever growing awareness about the environmental impact of fertilisation and the increasing government regulations, there is an evident pressure to develop sustainable and environment-friendly practices. Independent field trials with Ekompany CRF products show consecutively that the use of CRF can lead to a decrease in N-dosage from 30% to 50% without any compromise on results. Next to that the polymer coating that Ekompany uses gives a guarantee of continuous nutrient release of up to 18 months with a single application which offers even more efficiency.

Ekompany was established in 2010 and opened for production in September 2013. Ekompany’s production facility is exclusively specialised in coating of granular fertilisers and with its capacity of tens of thousands tons of coated granular fertiliser per year it is the largest of its kind in Western Europe. Ekompany uses a unique patented production process that makes it possible to produce Controlled Release Fertilisers that are both technologically advanced and affordable for wider use in open field cultivation.
