Mexico: Greenhouses to continue expanding in Durango

Small and plain greenhouse.

Greenhouses in the Mexican state of Durango have been gaining presence over the past decade, becoming a good alternative for producers who do not own many hectares for plantations.

Larger greenhouses.

However, there are also many abandoned greenhouses; infrastructures built by producers with fewer financial resources, who can barely afford to repair them when damaged by winds.

Greenhouses are mainly used for the cultivation of tomatoes, pumpkins and potatoes, among others, and they allow growers to subsist all year round.

Their expansion is very likely to continue in the coming years, as demand for them is still on the rise.
