Canada Blooms: Ten day exhibition to promote locally grown flowers

Beginning on Friday, March 14th, 2014, pickOntario will be teaming up with Canada Blooms at a ten-day exhibition of everything floral, to promote locally grown flowers at the Direct Energy Centre. This year’s theme is “Wild - Connecting People to Nature.” Canada Blooms is an annual world-class festival that connects people to the joys and benefits of nature through experiences with flowers and gardens by promoting, educating, inspiring and celebrating all aspects of local horticulture. With an expected attendance of over 204,000 people, the event will wrap up on Sunday, March 23rd.

Dean Shoemaker, FCO’s Executive Director commented “Canada Blooms will be especially welcomed this year by flower and gardening enthusiasts who are looking forward to their first taste of spring after this long cold winter. Attendees will enjoy the wonderful sights of fresh gardening and will be able to take a piece of spring home with them from our pickOntario Growers’ Marketplace.”

During, Canada Blooms, pickOntario will be hosting a number of special events:
  • pickOntario Day - Friday, March 21st consumers will meet growers and have a chance at winning free bouquets
  • pickOntario Bouquet Battle - Tuesday, March 18th, 1 p.m. & Saturday March 22nd, 4 p.m. where professional florists demonstrate their creativity under pressure on the main stage
  • Fantastic Floral Presentations with pickOntario - Saturday March 22nd, 12 p.m. & Sunday March 23rd, 11 a.m. where floral and gardening experts will share their experience & knowledge. You will have a chance to hear from expert designers Albert Graves & Inta Taurins (CAFA) & CBC Radio gardening host, Ed Lawrence
