Netherlands: Van Iperen expands product range and specialist team
Dutch supplier Van Iperen will be working with the multi-feed package of Haifa and biological control agents of Biobest. Also, the team of horticultural experts is extended. This way, Van Iperen can meet the demand of customers affected by the recent bankruptcy of Arend-Sosef.
Van Iperen has been around since 1921, but only ventured into the greenhouse business in the late 80's. "We started as a trader in grains, fertilizers and crop protection for agriculture in Hoekschewaard," says technical director Dirk Bakker. “In 1987, the company began with its own liquid fertilizers for horticulture, the single liquid package. These liquid fertilizers gave the company a considerable growth spurt." Further development of the range of fertilizers and crop protection made the company a wholesale supplier in the Netherlands, a feat further strengthened by the acquisition of a liquid fertilizer plant in Europoort and a collaboration with a transshipment company in Dordrecht.
Arend-Sosef ’s insolvency prompted Van Ieperen to extend its team of specialists, and to seek customer contacts itself. “Not something we had preferred,” says Bakker. “We rather enjoyed our collaboration with Arend-Sosef and had hoped to continue the partnership. We feel for the employees and their families, and consider the exit of Arend-Sosef a big loss for the sector. Unfortunately, we have to move on.”
