Canada: Museum exhibit features city’s rose heritage
Armstrong searched for new species of plants in the region, in addition to fruit trees and roses – a search that led to the formation of a world-class plant hybrid program. “The Paradise of Fruit and Flower” exhibit features original photos and artefacts, and a new rose garden outside of the museum displaying some of these famous hybrid roses.
On March 12, the museum will host a program featuring Jack E. Christensen, one of Armstrong’s award-winning rose hybridizers and a well-known newspaper columnist, who will discuss Armstrong roses. A reception for this event will begin at 6 p.m. with the program at 7.
Christensen will also address questions about roses and other gardening matters, time permitting. “The Paradise of Fruit and Flower” will be on display for the next year in the museum’s Carlson Room, funded in part through a grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services.
Admission to the museum is free, Thursday through Sunday, noon to 4 p.m.. For more information, call 909-395-2510.
