Netherlands: Pepper grower 4Evergreen expands to 60 hectares

Horticultural Region Zeeuws-Vlaanderen is as good as sold. Nursery 4Evergreen recently purchased the last available land in the Smidsschorrepolder (45 hectares). The last remaining 25 hectares in the Autrichepolder have been optioned.

The area works with waste heat and CO2 from fertilizer producer Yara. The first companies settled in the area in 2008. After that things stalled somewhat, resulting in the bankruptcy of Bio Glas Terneuzen. However, last summer another batch was sold to Nursery Van Adrichem. Then the United Vegetable Growers settled in the Autrichepolder.

A year ago, there were only three companies in the Smidsschorrepolder.

Now, the last lots in the Smidsschorrepolder have also been sold. The 45-hectare land available in Smidsschorrepolder goes to Grootscholte Projects, evidenced by the bankruptcy report of Bio Glass Terneuzen (via Faillissementsdossier.nl). With the last remaining lots now sold, things are again looking up for the region.
