US (OK): Fire crews quickly extinguish TLC greenhouse fire

The Oklahoma City Fire Department worked quickly to put out a fire at a garden centre on the Oklahoma City-Edmond line. TLC Florist & Greenhouses in the 100 block W Memorial Rd. caught fire at 4:40 Friday afternoon. Crews immediately rushed to the scene and reported large flames and dark smoke from the scene.

"When we arrived on scene we encountered two large greenhouses about 200 sq. feet each that were totally engulfed," said Battalion Chief Brian Stanaland.

About 15 minutes after the fire call came in, the fire was out. TLC spokesperson Andrew Harris said they lost mostly pots for potted plants and some mulch. The fire did come dangerously close to greenhouses that housed fertilizer and chemicals. Battalion Chief Stanaland says the situation would have been much different if those greenhouses were involved. "We would have most likely had to evacuate a fairly large area around the building."

TLC plans to re-open as normal on Saturday.
