UK: Shropshire garden specialist takes over rival nursery

Boningale Ltd has acquired Shropshire nursery Worfield Gardens, which was founded in the 1950s by Sir Oliver and Lady Leese. The Albrighton-based company currently supplies the construction and horticultural industry with more than a million home-grown plants every year.

Managing director Matt Mott said adding the Bridgnorth-based business would further expand its plant range and customer base. Mr Mott said: “This acquisition continues our objectives of expansion and diversification within the horticultural industry. Worfield Gardens, which operates over a five-acre site, has long had an excellent reputation for production of high quality nursery stock. Their range is the perfect complement to our existing portfolio of container and specimen plants. We are delighted to welcome the Worfield Gardens team into the Boningale family.”

Mr Mott said the acquisition would also mean an increase in the number of days the company was open to the public. Worfield Gardens will hold open days on April 26 and 27, June 28 and 29, and August 30 and 31.

Boningale Nurseries, which holds Grower Direct events in the autumn, has yet to confirm its opening days. For more information about events visit www.boningale.co.uk
