New Mayer potting machine for higher production quantities

The newly developed flexible high performance potting machine TM 2700 by Mayer in Heidenheim is particularly suited to landscape gardening operations that carry out single/double potting/pricking for moderate production quantities or single/quadruple potting/pricking for higher production quantities and would like to remain flexible in this regard.

The machine is available with three different lengths of consoles, named version M, L and XL. The number of pot holders varies depending on the length of the console between 18, 22 and 26 pieces.

The XL version offers space for potting by up to five persons at the same time on its 2.40 m console and/or sufficient space for the use of a planting robot with up to 12 grippers. With a performance of up to 10,000 pots per hour in the quadruple version, the TM 2700 is also perfectly suited to operations with the highest levels of production that needs to be processed in the shortest possible time.

The TM 2700 is characterised particularly by its ‘VarioFix’ pot holders, among other things. These are holders for all pot sizes, one, two or four at a time, and can be adjusted quickly and easily. It is therefore not necessary to change the pot holder for different pot sizes. The stable guidance of the holders is designed to be low-maintenance and low-wear. The holders are stable at their positions.

The span of usable pot sizes ranges from 7 - 15 cm diameter in the two-piece and four-piece versions and 16 – 30 cm diameter in the single piece version.

The unique 2-stage soil return system feeds excess substrate back to the soil hopper immediately after the drilling process without taking it along the entire pot route.

In order to counteract both the general price development and the reduced potting period because of climatic conditions (winter) a machine has been developed in the TM 2700 that enables gardeners to process higher quantities in a shorter length of time. Evolution on the market means that gardeners also need more space at the console for potting, either by people or machines. This makes the TM 2700 simple to operate and offers a high degree of flexibility thanks to the modular structure of its consoles. It can be configured in one of three different lengths at purchase depending on the needs of the individual gardener.

The frictional connection of the ‘VarioFix’ holder to the belt guide ensures exact and jolt-free pot transportation. The stability of the holding position is also strengthened by the structure of the outer belt. This is important for perfect drilling with central drilling holes and for continual processing in smooth work with a planting robot. This means that the young plants are always at the centre of the pot, which in turn guarantees the highest plant quality and assures the producers a secure price on the market.

The fact that up to five persons can pot comfortably at the same time on the TM 2700 and that several people can work at busy times ensures high flexibility in production planning. The ergonomic working height on the machine’s console ensures work can be continuous and fatigue-free.

Just one pot holder size is necessary for the ‘VarioFix’ holder for single, double or quadruple pots on the TM 2700 and this can be easily set to the required pot size with simple movements of the height and diameter. No space-consuming storage is needed as it is not necessary to have a separate set of pot holders for each pot size. The constant level of the pot support height means that it is also no longer necessary to continuously re-adjust the discharge conveyor when fitting new equipment.

The structure of the machine makes it extremely low-wear and low-maintenance. One reason for this is the exact guidance of the conveyor using special belts, which does away with the time-consuming adjustment of pot holders, chain guides and drilling unit and therefore saves time and money.
The other reason is the 2-stage soil return system that feeds the excess substrate back to the soil hopper immediately following the drilling process and thus both treats the structure of the substrate with care and retains the quality of this substrate. This protects the machine from wear and minimises maintenance costs.

The first TM 2700 potting machines have already been sold. The first machine went to the nursery Rudolf Lang & Sohn in Wiesentheid, Bavaria/Germany. Following a thorough testing phase at his operation Mr. Lang was convinced of the benefits of the Mayer TM 2700 and decided to buy.

Further machines will be delivered to Siegfried Kielau in Goch-Nierswalde (Lower Rhine Area/Germany) and to Guido van de Steen in Wetteren/Massemen (Belgium).

The TM 2700 was presented to the public for the first time at the IPM 2014 trade fair in Essen.
