one plant two crops

TomTato ready for commercial trade

Beekenkamp Plant has developed a plant that delivers tomatoes as well as potatoes. It took a couple of years before the hand grafted plant was ready for commercial trade.

It's the perfect plant for people who want to grow their own crops at home, but don't have enough space for a vegetable garden. To get the best results, the TomTato should be planted in a 50 litre pot. It can grow outside as well as inside the sun room. The tomatoes grow above ground and the potatoes underground. It's the first time these plants can be produced commercially.

Tomatoes and potatoes are members of the same family (solanaceae), that's why this combination works. Every plant is grafted by hand to create this unique combination. No genetic modification is used, the process is completely natural. Director and owner of Beekenkamp Plants, An Beekenkamp, says it has cost at lot of effort and patience to create this innovative product. "I'm very proud of the result."

Together with the English company, Thompson and Morgan Ltd., the plant is called TomTato. Thompson and Morgan Ltd. is also the supplier of this double crop plant.
