VDH sustainable Greenhouse Solutions presents open sky greenhouse

At the IPM VDH presented two novelties at the same time. Included in the product range is now besides the well known open sky (cabrio) greenhouse, also the "MX4", an open sky greenhouse with overlapping vents. With this solution ventilating with rain remains possible without any risk of damaged crops due to raindrops. The application of high-performance Lock Turbo Logic engines also ensures that the vents from a fully open position will be closed within two minutes.

For the vegetables and plant breeders VDH came out with the new wide-span greenhouse. Although in Europe already similar types plastic greenhouses to a roof width up to 15 m were realized, a maximum width up to approx. 10 m finds favour. The problem with wide-spans wider than 10 m might be that the vents will not become larger proportionally. Wide-spans wider than 10 m may be buildable faster and cheaper, but the for the vegetable growers very important ventilation capacity will be reduced too much. It is important, that little higher costs will not become more important as a good climate (temperature and humidity) control within the greenhouse. With too small ventilation windows the risks of diseases and blackouts increases.

The characteristics of the new wide-span greenhouse includes longer life of the films, an extremely high light transmission due to less construction parts in the roof and lower maintenance costs. The first project with the new wide-span is currently realized in Guatemala (also see NethWorks “most sustainable farm in Latin America”). Further projects in Latin America are already included in the planning. In order to achieve the status “most sustainable”, at the same time the sister company VDH Solar installs a solar field of approx. 300 kW. With this Solar solution the customer in Guatemala will be able to become fully self-supplying in their daily energy needs.
