ID Greenhouse ready for tomato cultivation

After six months of building, the ID Greenhouse by Duijvestijn Tomaten is in use. This sustainable greenhouse is already completely equipped with tomato plants. "It's quite an achievement to realise such a project, in which every component is different than usual, on such short notice," Peter Zwinkels from Technokas says. "The result is impressive, yet now we have to wait and see whether the combination of innovations will deliver what we expected. That's exciting and we are confident in the project."

For the first cultivation year, Duijvestijn Tomaten has chosen for the plum-tomato variety Prunus. Ted Duijvestijn: "In the past year we've been introduced to this strong variety. The fruits are strong, deep red and oblong. This variety is suitable for harvesting separate and by bunch, which allows us to serve the market flexibly." In the current conventional greenhouse, the Prunus variety is also cultivated. So, the different growing conditions can be compared.

Sharing knowledge
Next to the ID Greenhouse, a new business room including a presentation space is built. From this room it's possible to observe the greenhouse and presentations can be given. Ted Duijvestijn: "We expect huge interest for this new concept." For interested parties a guided tour of the innovative technical aspects and crop performance is possible.

Concept ID Greenhouse
The ID Greenhouse is developed by Technokas and Duijvestijn Tomaten. Technokas has cooperated with Boal Systems (aluminium roof system) and Scheuten (double glazing). This greenhouse concept is characterized by high energy savings, plenty of light, a high degree of climate control, low water consumption and no pressure of insects.
