Stefano Boeri's Vertical Forest gets planted
It is a wonderful idea; like a tree planted in front of a house, they provide shade in summer, penetrating sunlight in winter, protection from wind, cleaning the air, producing oxygen and reducing noise pollution.
If they thrive. A landscape architect who preferred to remain anonymous, expressed concerns that the planters couldn't possibly support this kind of growth. The trees would live, but they wouldn't grow very much. However, Liz Eve at Inhabitat writes that "Every plant has been chosen by botanists to thrive in it’s particular orientation and microclimate within the structure. Moreover, a specialized maintenance company will keep the vertical forest in good health in the years to come."
