"Israeli peppers selling well"

Israeli peppers selling well

In the last week, the sales of Israeli peppers has gone well. "The start of the season was terribly bad with low prices, but in the meantime the market has improved" Frank Mosterd of Gilad Desert Produce tells, who markets products on behalf of approx. seventy growers. "Last week reasonable volumes still came from Israel this way, but productions are smaller now. Last Friday it rained in Israel resulting in no harvest for one day and that will cause little to arrive towards the end of the week."

The price of red peppers is at about Euro 8.50 at the moment and for the yellow and the orange peppers, Euro 10.00. "Yellow and orange peppers are almost unobtainable and these prices increased enormously. This week prices will remain at that level. I expect that after that, the price of the red pepper will stabilize and that orange and yellow will not decrease too much" Frank says.

Frank remarks that Russia remains an enormously large market for Israeli peppers, but that the retailers in Western Europe include more and more peppers in their programs all the time. Also the demand for Palermo pointed-peppers is very good. Spain also demands good money for the peppers. At the end of January/beginning of February it is the best time for Israeli peppers and normally speaking, prices are good."
