Meanwhile, production volumes increased by 2.6%, reaching a record-breaking 3,051,027 tonnes.
Although the weather conditions, with more moisture and fewer hours of sunshine, had an impact on the crops' productivity, most of them still registered larger production volumes, particularly in the case of courgettes, peppers and tomatoes. On the other hand, aubergines, and to a lesser extent, melons and lettuce, all dropped.
The value of all fruit and vegetable exports amounted to almost 1,984 million Euro, which represents an 11.5% growth compared to the previous season. Once again, tomatoes were the most exported, with peppers closely behind (500.8 and 488.4 million Euro respectively). All major products registered significant advances, especially Chinese cabbage, watermelon and green beans.
Regarding destinations, Almeria's dependency on the EU markets increased, with Germany once again being the main importer. The income generated from eastern European countries grew by just 2.1%, mainly as a result of the lower sales in Romania, Hungary and Lithuania.
