New CCO for RedStar to shape international growth ambitions

Starting January 1 2014, the management of RedStar will be joined by a new Chief Commercial Officer, Johan Nels (47). Nels joins the management team of RedStar to help shape the international growth ambitions of the tomato grower. Gert van Straalen (36), the current managing director of Kaaij Greenhouses UK, joins the RedStar board as COO (Chief Operating Officer).

Nels is a highly experienced commercial manager who won his spurs at large, international companies such as Sara Lee and Carbonel and has been active in recent years in family firms with international ambitions.

Van Straalen has for many years been active as general manager of international production locations in Canada and the United Kingdom. The last five years he served as managing director of the "RedStar growing location" Kent (UK), part of the Thanet Earth project.

RedStar, with annual sales of more than eighty million, wants to achieve further growth, through international expansion among others. The directorate managing this growth will consist of Rob Bal (CEO), Cor van der Kaaij (Head of crop) Meltem Klaassen-Aytug (CFO) and newcomers John Nels (CCO) and Gert van Straalen (COO).
