More growers take advantage of biologicals, trip mesh greenhouses

Argentina: First tests with greehouses in Corrientes

With a total of 97.5 hectares cultivated in 2013 and a strong upward trend for 2014 the Argentinian province of Corrientes has consolidated as the main producer of peppers for domestic consumption.

In November, two field visits were carried out in Bella Vista, including technical workshops, an exchange of experiences and an announcement of next year's prospects. The event celebrated the success of this new model for Corrientes, which is already an example at a national level.

The meeting started at the property of the company El Panqueque, owned by Ricardo Fernández. With an acreage of a little over 3 hectares, the firm has started testing greenhouses with added nets on the sides, which prevent the entry of unwanted pests.

The visit continued at Gustavo Sandoval's 5 hectare plantation, which has introduced biological control methods for the first time, by means of a method that minimises the use of chemicals to tackle pests.

Sandoval explained the radical change and benefits brought about by biological control, and also announced to install the netting next season.
