Spain exports more zucchini than another six countries combined

Spain has exported a total of 270,919 tonnes of zucchini so far this year, followed by New Zealand with 86,782 tonnes and Mexico with 48,994 tonnes of zucchini, squash and jam.

Morocco ranks in fourth place on the list with 41,782 tonnes, followed by the Netherlands in fifth place with a total of 32,503 tonnes of exported zucchini, although it should be noted that in this case it is mostly re-exports as the Netherlands imported 30,886 tonnes that year.

Turkey ranks sixth with a total of 28,017 tonnes. Italy, which exported 23,522 tonnes in 2011, ranks seventh. France ranks eight with 21,136 tonnes. Portugal is in ninth place with 8,252 tonnes and, closing the top ten is, Belgium with 5,299 tonnes of zucchini exported in 2011.

Spain also ranks first place in terms of profits for its zucchini exports with 186.62 million Euro in 2011. New Zealand ranks second with 37.12 million, followed by the Netherlands with 31.67 million, Italy with 23.83, Morocco with 21.71, France 17.43, Turkey with 15.48, Mexico with 14.54, Portugal with 4.72, and Belgium with 4.19 million Euro in zucchini exports.

Price
Of the five top ranking countries by volume of exports, the Netherlands, with a price of 0.97 Euro per kilo of zucchini sold abroad, got the best price for each kilo of zucchini exported in that year followed by Spain with 0.69, Morocco with 0.52, New Zealand with 0.43 and Mexico with 0.30 Euro per kilo.

Imports
The country that imported the most zucchini in 2011 was the United States, which bought a total of 365,519 tonnes (including pumpkins and pumpkin jam), followed by France with 143 257 tonnes, Japan 114,574, Germany 69,405, United Kingdom 41,247, the Republic of Korea 32,488, the Netherlands 30,886, Russia 24,369, Italy 15,571 and Austria, which closes top ten importers, with 14,042 tonnes.
