Hydro One announces big plans

Canada: Good news for Leamington growers that want to produce year round

Hydro One intends to apply to build a new transmission line and transformer station is big news for Leamington, according to Leamington's Mayor John Paterson. “We could see upwards of $500-million of investment in the economy in this little area of ours.” Paterson says a lot of that development would be from expansion in the greenhouse industry. Ontario Greenhouse Vegetable Growers Executive Director George Gilvesy agrees. “There’s been a number of growers that are looking at 12-month production. This would enable that.”

Hydro One will file an application early next year to build the $70-million dollar line and transformer station. It will take the Ontario Energy Board 8-10 months to review the application before it can be approved, allowing construction to begin.
