Urbinati has developed a new drum seeder with multiple drums for medium capacity production with up to 650 trays per hour. Urbinati has added extra drums on the seeder so the propagator can sow up to three sowing drums at one time. Consequently, the propagator can sow different varieties without loosing time on adjusting the machine and changing the drums. 
Urbinati developed the Lambda seeder after spotting the Multi sowing trend in the market. "More and more medium scale nurseries are active in these markets", said Urbinati's Alessandro Mazzacano. "They have many varieties in their nurseries and have to change their drum seeding lines quite often, a time consuming operation. Our new Lambda seeder is equipped with drums that can be fully adjusted automatically with electronic motors. The grower can store multiple programs in the machine's software. All kind of configurations are possible; the machine can sow all of the three drums at once, or operate them separately and independently, so basically it is two machines in one."
With the Lambda seeder, a grower cannot only have different varieties in one tray, but also sow up to three seeds in one cell. "This is the case with the well known salatrio's you see in the supermarkets nowadays, with three types of lettuce cultivated in the same pot. Another example is different kind of plants and colors in one tray, especially for retail purposes.
