Mexico's tomato greenhouse acreage grown to 600 hectare

Since 2004, the total high tech greenhouse acreage for the production of tomatoes has grown to 600 hectares. This generate approximately 750 million pesos per year for the state of Oaxaca. This was reported by the President of the State Committee of Oaxaca's Tomato and Vegetable Producers Organisation, Sandro Guadalupe Méndez Sánchez.

He explained that the activity started with the goal of consolidating the tomato productive chain through the exchange of knowledge, technology and strategic alliances.

Méndez Sánchez highlighted that the current value of the tomato chain is of 464,000 million pesos, with a total of 600 productive hectares, from which 80% are registered in this State Committee that brings 2,382 producers together and generates more than 13,000 direct jobs.
