Spain: Vegacañada starts new tomato season

Almeria's Vegacañada is poised to start its 11th tomato season. Vegacañada wants the next season to continue last year’s growth curve, coupled with the demand from both consumers and businesses.

As always, Vegacañada publishes its catalogue with a comprehensive overview of the different tomato varieties, such as round tomatoes, ribbed tomatoes and pear-shaped tomatoes, next to brands like Raf and Rebelión, different types of cherry and cocktail tomatoes. At the end of the season (April), consumers can also expect the watermelon and Sandia.

Vegacañada will focus on exports around Europe. The export is mainly targeted at Germany, UK, Italy, Poland, France and Russia, although the Baltic countries (Lithuania, Estonia and Latvia) and the Nordic countries (notably Denmark, Sweden and Norway) also remain important markets, in addition to a high growth forecast in the Eastern territories.
