Italy: ISI Sementi presents new greenhouse tomatoes

Agents and clients were able to access a greenhouse containing more than 140 hybrids tomato varieties at The Open Day organised by ISI Sementi The varieties presented were of the following types: beef, red bunch, oval, cherry, miniplum, mini San Marzano and specialities.

As ISI Sementi managers reported, "we paid special attention to new products. In the beef tomato sector Deko F1 stands out (below left) and confirms its regular production with a particular taste and shape and an accentuated crown. Spring-summer transplants of Deko are gaining a rather big share in the professional market thanks to their combination of authenticity and a wide range of resistances i.e.

As regards red vine tomatoes, we recommend Stratos F1 (below right): productivity, long shelf-life and fleshy rachid make it one of the varieties with the best performance.

Deko F1 and Stratos F1.

The ISI 51246 F1 hybrid stood out in the oval sector. It is a highly productive tomato with close bunches and 7-8 fruits per bunch weighing 120-130 g. The rachid is fleshy, with herringbone-arranged fruit. This new variety is impressive for its green fruits, with beautiful tones and accentuated crowns. It is a very versatile hybrid ideal for bunch or single fruit, red or green harvesting. When harvesting single fruits, they maintain a fresh and fleshy calyx.

As regards cherry tomatoes, Tudor F1 had excellent performances (in the side photo), as it is very regular and productive also in the top part of the plant, with long and elegant bunches. Fruits are bright red and weigh 22-24 g.

The company managers continue by saying that "in 2013, we have inserted ISI 80542 F1, a speciality in the cherry sector: regular bunches shorter than Tudor F1, lighter weighs (15-18 g) and bright colour. What really makes it a "speciality" though is its flavour, in fact, samples were really sweet, with a 10° Brix level. With respect to other similar cherry tomatoes, this variety can be harvested with the rachid (if the bunch is ripe) as it looks very good once packed."

As regards the miniplum sector, Dardo F1 (in the side photo) performed very well and it is establishing itself in the mini San Marzano sector: "It has a particular shape and regular weight. The rachid is regular and thick, with curled and fleshy sepals. Such characteristics mean Dardo is easily identifiable. The flavour and the Brix level, which is always higher than 10°, are also noteworthy."

ISI Sementi is also considering hybrid ISI 80546 F1, very long mini San Marzano tomatoes weighing 30 g. "This selection has a very particular shape, with regular weight and a delicate flavour."

Dolly F1 and Tigro F1.

Finally, Dolly F1 (yellow mini San Marzano tomatoes - above left), Tigro F1 (tiger cherry tomatoes - above right) and Melange F1 (tiger plum tomatoes) specialities raised quite a lot of interest from the market, which is always looking for particular and tasty products.
