Canada: Ace Begonias Selects LumiGrow LED Greenhouse Lights
LumiGrow announced today that Ace Begonias, one of New England’s premier growers of Rieger begonias and other flowering plants, selected LumiGrow LED greenhouse lights to boost crop productivity and reduce electrical costs. By replacing inefficient, aging high pressure sodium (HPS) fixtures with LumiGrow Pro 325™ LED lights, Ace Begonias is projected to reduce light-related electrical consumption by 25 percent while it more than doubles light in its Woodbridge, CT facility.
After weathering the recent economic recession, Ace Begonias owner Paul Rieur seeks to improve financial performance and differentiate his business as a grower of premium flowering plants for high-end retailers serving the New York City metropolitan area, especially Manhattan, Fairfield and Westchester counties, Long Island’s Gold Coast and the Hamptons. Mr. Rieur’s selection of the LumiGrow solution is central to this strategy.
By increasing the light energy reaching his crop with LumiGrow LED fixtures, Mr. Rieur will improve crop productivity and performance, enabling Ace Begonias to bring larger and healthier plants to market, faster. Additionally, Mr. Rieur will avoid both the comparatively higher electrical bills associated with his 425 Watt HPS fixtures and the frequent maintenance they require.
“I chose LumiGrow LED lights to maximize growing horsepower at a lower overall cost,” said Mr. Rieur. He added, “Growing more products of greater quality at less expense equals black ink.”
“Paul Rieur is making an investment in a future that will literally be brighter. We’re pleased to team up with the Ace Begonias team to make the upcoming growing season a tremendous success,” said Kevin Wells, founder and CEO, LumiGrow.
Ace Begonias is financing the purchase of energy-efficient LumiGrow LED lights with a no-interest loan from a regional power utility. Additional financial support for Ace Begonias’ LumiGrow implementation is being provided by a grant from the US Department of Agriculture’s Rural Energy for America Program (REAP).
