Europe: Tomato market still under pressure

The European tomato market is still under pressure. According to the German Agrarmarkt Informations-Gesellschaft (AMI), prices in the Netherlands and Belgium are still very low. Regulatory countermeasures are now being taken. Supplies however, are still high and sales are slow. Even further price cuts don’t seem to boost demand. New discount campaigns offering tomatoes at favourable prices miss their mark, as prices have been low for a while now.

German production gradually increases. Especially the range of loose tomatoes from regional production increases rapidly, causing prices to drop as foreign competition is still sharp. The price difference is now noticeably smaller.
