‘Prominent’ has been a significant brand for 20 years
Jack Groenewegen, holding sway over 16 hectares of tomatoes, has been involved with Dutch grower cooperation Prominent from the start. Since the official establishment of the producer organization in 1995, he was on the Board. This year, Jack became Chairman of the Group Groeneweg. He loves talking about Prominent, a label that was put on the market 20 years ago and has been a quality brand ever since.
In 1993, Prominent came into existence as the result of a collaboration between a number of producers growing Cameo, a distinctive tomato for its time. "The advantage of Prominent was that it could be harvested in vines, which was new. As a result, the brand became increasingly popular. Today Prominent tomatoes are sold throughout Europe."
To Jack Groenewegen, cooperation and entrepreneurship go hand in hand. "I see Prominent as an extension of my own company. The fact that I am a member of the club has brought me much good. I have close colleagues I can spar with. Our success is really all about working together." The future of Prominent looks promising, according to Groenewegen. "Prominent is a strong business-to-business brand known for its quality and durability. And we continue to focus on reliability and delivering top quality tomatoes. It remains our strategy to be market-oriented, together with our partners in the chain."
