Netherlands: Nunhems agrees on 20 hectare extension
Nunhems Netherlands BV, the municipality of Leudal and the Province of Limburg have reached an agreement on the terms for the company’s expansion in Leudal.
Local deputy Patrick van der Broeck, Ko Remijnse, CEO of Nunhems Netherlands and Paul Vogels of the Leudal municipality.
Nunhems wants to expand the company by 20 hectares of glass in the coming years. An investment of tens of millions of Euro. The company wants to expand in the Buggenums Field, an open agricultural area opposite the current location in Nunhem. Construction in this open area means an impairment of the spatial quality of the landscape. Under the rules of the county and township permission can only be granted if the loss of quality is compensated for.
The agreement provides in these issues. Nunhems will pay over €2.8 million. With that money the city is taking steps to compensate for the loss of scenic quality in the area. Deputy Patrick van der Broeck is pleased with the agreement, as it puts an end to years of uncertainty about the expansion. “The planned expansion is good for the knowledge industry in Limburg and in particular the region itself,” says Van der Broeck.
