From it's origin, NPI has been a manufacturer of plastic films that are used for different kinds of applications. "Our films are made for agricultural practices, pond liners, road construction, packaging and horticulture," said Arjen van Dijk from NPI. "We are a market leader on pond liners , but horticulture is also a big and increasing part of our business, foremost regarding the export of easy to install, but high quality water storages."

NPI has several products for water storage. Their films are used in both galvanized steel silo’s, as well as excavated basins. According to van Dijk, the steel silos are quite popular in upcoming markets, and at the Horti Asia trade show that was held in Bangkok in May, the company enjoyed a lot of interest in water storage systems. "Asian growers showed a lot of interest in our steel silo water storage systems. Nowadays they are looking for easy to build, storage systems as an alternative to concrete equivalents. Galvanized steel tanks show multiple advantages over concrete water storages, such as hygiene, installation time, life span and cost efficiency. But it was not only agricultural and horticultural interest ; the silos also gained interest for other purposes like rainwater harvesting & storage, fresh water storage and industrial usage.
NPI noted this interest on the first Horti Asia in 2012, and ever since they have had their own distributor, Demarc Trading, in Thailand. Next to this the NPI also work closely together with other suppliers and turnkey constructors that are active in other new markets.

"I think that the demand for water storage in Thailand is currently is more thriving than the need of modern horticultural supplies," said Van Dijk. "Water storage, however, can be the first step to simple automation. You can imagine that opening a simple valve every time you want to irrigate can sometimes be hard to manage, or even more difficult when you have 30 valves to be opened every hour. A simple automated pump or valve can be a great help for some growers and the first step into automation. That's why we also manufacture and develop easy to use irrigation and climate controls since a few years, with our partner IGE."
NPI and IGE's keeps focusing on developing and implementing easy-to-use, modular systems for new horticultural markets. Van Dijk: "The essence of our products is high tech equipment and automation, developed and adjusted for new and upcoming markets. The clue is to look at things as somebody with basic knowledge, and from that point of view you start to develop, resulting in high tech, easy to use products."
