60% of Dutch radish production for export

Radish is a real salad vegetable. In the Netherlands and in Germany, three quarters of consumers eats the spicy carrot raw, mostly in salads. The convenience vegetables are therefore typically bought fresh.

Eurostat has no figures on import or export volumes. In the Netherlands, about 23 million kilo is produced annually, according to industry statistics by PT. About 10 million of these are consumed domestically, the rest (almost 60%) is for export. In the past year, France was the main customer (2012: 2.6 million kilos, almost 20%). Most of the time however, it’s Germany (2012: over 15% with 2.3 million pounds). The United Kingdom (2.3 million pounds in 2012 also) and Sweden (2012: 1.7 million pounds, almost 15%) also represent stable markets.
