Agriculture has changed a lot in recent years, especially in its contribution to environmental protection, leading many firms to innovate in the field of fertilisers, which is becoming increasingly more competitive and diversified.
Atlántica Agrícola was founded in 1982 in Spain, in the city of Villena (province of Alicante). After several years of tests and development, an organic liquid formulation produced from plant material was introduced into the market which represented a revolution in the fertilisers sector, giving way to changes in Atlántica Agrícola's policies, which went from being a local firm selling its products in the domestic market to a large exporter with strong presence in the international market.
This internationalisation process started with the introduction of its products in the American continent, where a solid distribution network was created, helping Atlántica Agrícola to become a leading firm in the development and research of new agricultural products for a wide range of crops.
Nowadays, with over 30 years' experience, Atlántica Agrícola develops and sells over 100 nutrition products (biostimulants and aminoacids, deficiency correctors, chelates, foliar fertilisers, etc.) and zero waste plant protection in close to 60 countries from both hemispheres.
The RAZORMIN biostimulant is probably its flagship products; an NPK fertiliser with micro elements and biostimulant factors, suitable as a stimulus for the plant and its roots. "Its main advantage is that it stimulates plant growth in a compensated manner, both of the aerial part and the roots, while supplying the plant with nutrients," explains Alberto Sanguero, Export Manager of Atlántica Agrícola.
In the same way, they also develop Phytofortifiers or OMDF's (Other Means of Phytosanitary Defence) from botanical extracts, on which many of the largest Spanish producing firms put their trust. "Located in Honduras, we own one of the few extraction plants for this material in the world," affirms Alberto. "This extraction plant allows us to control the quality of the raw materials and the entire extraction process."
Nevertheless, this specialised sector is not free of threats and difficulties. One of the most damaging factors for the Phytofortifiers sector, according to Alberto Salguero, is their sale by firms lacking the necessary experience and quality. "There are many growers who have tested bad quality products without any positive results, leading them to distrust the products altogether. Those trying our products are always satisfied," he states.
For this reason, according to Alberto, Spain and other countries should pass a legislation allowing the registration of OMDF's to prevent fraud. "The agricultural sector (and Atlántica Agrícola in particular) has spent years demanding specific regulations for this type of products, so that every firm has clear rules to follow and customers can trust in the quality and effectiveness of those products."
Atlántica Agrícola has expanded internationally this year, offering its products in 5 new countries. "We have a considerable presence in South America for more than 25 years with the extraction plant in Honduras and 5 subsidiaries. The fact that we speak the same language, together with our experience, help us ensure a good position in the Latin American market, as we were one of the first firms in the area to offer this kind of products. Our goal now is to expand in Asia; a faraway market, but with plenty of potential," he concludes.
