Almeria exports 765 million Euro fruit and veg in first semester
Fresh vegetables accounted for 81.6% of provincial exports in this period and 47% of national exports, followed by Murcia (22.4%) and Valencia (7.6%), according to the latest figures from Icex. Germany invested 240 million Euro in Almerian produce.
Netherlands has overtaken France as the second destination for fresh vegetables from Almeria with 13.3%, followed by the French market with 12.9% and the UK with 11.2%. Outside the EU, Switzerland bought 1.8%, Russia for 0.6%, and the U.S. and Canada 0.3%.
Until March 1.6 million kilos of fruit was exported from Almeria, 21.5% less than the first half of 2012, with a value of 2.6 million Euro. Italy was the largest export destination with 25.2%, followed by Denmark (18.5%), Switzerland (17.8%), France (14.6), Poland (7.3%), and Germany (4.5%).
The pepper, with 233.8 million Euro, represented the chief vegetables exported from Almeria (25% of the provincial share), followed by the tomato with 231.1 million (24.6%). In third place is the cucumber with a 13.5% market share, followed by the zucchini with 6.9%, and the eggplant with 4.6%.
