Monsanto expands operations in Ukraine

The US company Monsanto intends to expand its operational activities in Ukraine and boost the volume of investment in the development of an agriculture industrial complex, Brett Begemann, company president, said at a meeting with the Ukrainian Ambassador to the United States, Alexander Motsuk.

According to Begemann the subsidiary of the company, Monsanto-Ukraine, is currently the only foreign enterprise in Ukraine. It has created a breeding station for research of different seed varieties, located in the town of Uman.

According to Motsuk, with the projects such as has been implemented by Monsanto, Ukraine may soon dramatically increase production of food.

"Ukraine is one of the few countries that has almost perfect conditions for agriculture. It is able in a short time to double food production, which is especially important in the context of global food security" Motsyk said.
