Together with its sales staff, Zeta Seeds has met a number of agricultural companies of the Ragusa area (Sicily), many of which organic, to make an assessment on the greenhouse cultivation of "Zingaro" cucumbers.
One of the demonstrative greenhouses is located in the Puccia Giovanni commercial farm, in the Contrada San Martino in Santa Croce Camerina, where cucumbers were transplanted on 2nd February 2013 (photo below).
As Zeta Seeds managers explain, "foreign demand for cucumbers, especially if organic, is rather high even in this period. Therefore, it is perfect for production diversification as an alternative to tomatoes."
Technical visits to the producing companies highlighted the particular characteristics of Zingaro cucumbers, which appear to be already ready for harvesting with many uniform fruits on plants.
The strong points from a productive and sale point of view are the dark green colour, good spines and the length of the peduncle.
In addition, the setting is very good in difficult weather conditions thanks to the presence of 100% female flowers (parthenocarpic variety - completely seedless) and therefore of an excellent production.
Zingaro cucumbers are also easily digestible, as the fruit is "bitterfree" and it maintains its sweetness in thermal or water stress conditions.
