Research results for allergic reaction to lock plates

Research has been done into the allergic reaction suspected of being connected to the orange lock plates; the results are now available. In February 2013 it was ascertained that several FloraHolland employees and transporters had suffered allergic reactions. It was suspected that these allergic reactions were caused by the orange (collective transport) lock plate. To minimise the problem after this suspicion was expressed, various suggestions were proposed for working with the lock plates.

An independent research bureau examined whether the orange lock plate could indeed be the cause of the allergic symptoms. It was immediately determined that the released substance was not poisonous (toxic) and was not dangerous to health.

The definitive research report found that only the orange lock plate was releasing a substance. The substance released by the orange lock plates is not toxic. The research bureau then ascertained what the substance consists of (components) and whether these components could be responsible for the allergic reactions. Unfortunately, this study was not able to confirm that these components were the actual cause of the allergic reaction.

Currently, the next steps are being prepared, and it is meanwhile recommended to continue following the earlier suggestions.

- Wear gloves when working with lock plates.
- Avoid rubbing your eyes or touching your mouth.
- Wash your hands before and after eating with water and soap.
- Wash your hands before and after using the toilet with water and soap.
