1400 plants per hour

Spain: Clipping a 7 hectare tomato greenhouse with just 3 people

Reducing costs in greenhouse production is a must for growers who are trying to be competitive. Nowadays, along with other costs, labour costs are one of the most important ones. For example, in the Netherlands, the gross cost of a specialized worker in a greenhouse could be as high as 15 euros per hour. Clipping tomatoes is a high labour demanding task, as every 7-10 days each plant of the greenhouse needs to be clipped or twined.

In order to solve this problem, Agrifast has launched the Tom System, a new clipping method were the worker can go up to 40% faster than using the traditional clipping methods.

Several growers in the Netherlands are using it already and they have proved that it is possible to clip (with just one person) more than 2 hectares on a weekly basis, with a traditional plant density of 2,5000 plants per hectare and an average clipping speed of 1,400 plants per hour.

This video shows how it is possible to clip a 7 hectare tomato greenhouse with just 3 people using the Tom System.
