Spain: Castilla-León and Madrid, interested in PGI Tomate La Cañada
The Regulatory Board of the Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) Tomate La Cañada took part last Tuesday (12th March) in Valladolid's Fair. The three day event was considered to be a very positive experience and the Board showed its satisfaction for being able to promote the quality of Almeria's tomatoes in Castilla-León and its surroundings.
Representatives from Madrid and neighbouring areas were at the Fair asking questions about the tomato to members of the Regulatory Board, who explained to them their characteristics. Cristóbal Muñoz and Miguel Ángel Arenas, two of its members, said that, "people from various markets in Madrid enquired how they could purchase our tomatoes."
"We perceived a clear interest in the PGI Tomate La Cañada. Everyone that took part was interested to know how to order our tomatoes, so we will begin distributing them in the area."
Muñoz and Arenas both highlighted the pleasure of seeing visitors in awe after tasting the tomatoes. Tastings were conducted during the third day of the Fair and the room was packed to the brim. Members of the Regulatory Board explained how the tastings would be conducted as well as some of the differentiating characteristics of the product.
"The most appreciated tomatoes were the Kumato, Raf and Cherry. Visitors were pleasantly surprised by the taste and asked us where they could buy them to incorporate them to their daily diets," affirms Cristóbal Muñoz.
It is worth noting that during the three days of Valladolid's Fair, all 150 kilos that had been brought from Almeria were used, which proves how popular they were.
