Netherlands: Spanish and Moroccan zucchini at Witkamp
Fresh produce trader Witkamp in Poeldijk currently receives both Spanish and Moroccan zucchini. "The last few days we’ve been getting a lot of courgettes sent from Spain, despite the bad weather over there. From what I hear there was lots of rain and even some small tornadoes along the coast," says Morris Peters. "I expect more to arrive in the next few weeks.”
Left the Spanish and right the Moroccan zucchini
The Moroccan and Spanish courgettes are, according to Morris, almost equal in quality, although the Moroccan kind is often slightly cheaper. "We mostly get green zucchini and practically no yellow. The price is at reasonable levels between 3.50 and 4.50 Euro per box. We deliver the courgettes in particular to wholesale markets in the UK and Scandinavia."
