Parsley most liked kitchen herb by Germans
The German growers organisation BVEO recently published interesting data about herbs. Germans spend more money on kitchen herbs all the time. From 2011 to 2012 expenses increased by 10.4 percent. A third of the herbs consumed in Germany come from local cultivation.
Parsley is the most liked kitchen herb by Germans. Almost one third of the amount the Germans spend on kitchen herbs is to buy parsley. Therefore parsley is most often found in the shopping baskets of the consumer (28 percent), followed by basil (22 percent), chives (13 percent), dill (9 percent) and water cress
(5 percent).
Herbs are extraordinarily aromatic on the table when fresh. The BVEO suggest to the consumer, when buying herbs to pay attention that the plants are not showing withered points or yellow leaves. Also the correct storage method is important.
Important tips: always put a small bundle of herbs in a glass of water. As an alternative they may be packed wet in a small bag to be kept fresh and stored in the fridge. When herbs are not immediately put on the plate or in the pan, it is recommended to dry them.
