Guy Rinat, Global Green Team: Russian market increasingly important

"Supply and prices of Israeli vegetables under pressure"

This season Global Green Team introduced the product line Tène, with its connected Israeli company Green Team Israel, for the top quality of Israeli tomatoes and peppers in the European market. Global Green Team is collaborating for this with trusted pepper exporters. But so far the season isn't going as commercial manager Guy Rinat had hoped. "At the beginning of the year snow, hail and storms terrorised the Israeli vegetable cultivation and this means the supply is at a low level. Due to the cold in Europe the consumption is low too, which puts the market under pressure."

Guy says that the ripening of the product has been greatly slowed for tomatoes as well as peppers. The Israeli cherry tomato growers of Green Team Israel are in the Negev region. "Last winter season was difficult for many growers. The large supply from the Mediterranean area resulted in a low yield, but many growers are complaining again this year. There is a lot of competition from peppers from Spain and Morocco and cherry tomatoes from Spain, Morocco, Egypt and Senegal."

According to the commercial manager the Russian market is becoming increasingly important for the Israeli vegetables. "A lot of carrots and radishes already went to Russia from Israel, but more and more peppers and tomatoes are finding their way to the Russian market. In Western Europe the prices are under pressure, but now some of the cold is gone, I do expect the prices to pull up a bit soon."

Global Green Team will be at Fruit Logistica with the Olympic Food Group, hall 1.2, stand C-09.
