Jeroen van der Ploeg on Pentakeep:
"7% increase in yield is just hard to ignore"
Cucumber grower Jeroen van der Ploeg only listened with half an ear when neighbour Bas van Schie told him about Pentakeep. "I know these sales pitches by heart," he laughs. "I’ve seen these so-called miracle products come and go." All the same, the grower had reason to change his mind when he got a chance to try the product for himself. Now he uses Pentakeep all the time. Why? "7% increase in yield is just hard to ignore," he explains.

Pentakeep is a liquid fertilizer of 5-aminolevulinic acid. This amino acid is essential in the process of photosynthesis. By additional administration this process is accelerated, allowing the plant to produce more sugar and dry matter. The growth of the plants is enhanced. Van Schie also tested the ideal administration of the agent. "Not just me," he says. "Research centres WUR and PPO have run the same tests. Therefore, we now know the ideal dosage. We also found out that the best way to administer the agent is drop by drop."

Van Schie has been using the product for years, but his neighbour just wasn’t eager. However, Van der Ploeg was recently converted to Pentakeep, and is now using it throughout his cultivation. What made him decide to mend his ways?
The answer is simple: a higher yield. In the last year he kept accurate tabs on the effects of Pentakeep. “In one test section, the yield was 7% higher, in another even a little more,” he says. Van Schie stresses the importance of properly administering the product. "In Belgium they have tested it without minding the dosage, minimizing the effect. During the follow-up trial, during which we provided instruction, the yield increased. You must learn to use it properly."
