Bayer CropScience completes acquisition of Prophyta GmbH

Bayer CropScience announced the completion of its purchase of Prophyta GmbH, a leading supplier of microbial crop protection products headquartered in Malchow on the island of Poel in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany. The acquisition, which includes Prophyta´s product portfolio, R&D laboratories, production and formulation facilities, reflects Bayer CropScience’s strategic commitment to lead the way in innovation.

For Bayer CropScience, this acquisition is an important investment decision towards building a leading biologics technology platform. "Prophyta´s patented technology platform significantly boosts Bayer CropScience´s ability to offer growers worldwide novel technology and complete agricultural solutions," said Dr. Rüdiger Scheitza, Member of the Board of Management of Bayer CropScience AG and Head of Strategy & Business Management.

Prophyta, founded in 1992, provides customers well-established products primarily based on biological control agents. For example, its nematicide BioAct™ is available in 10 countries. Prophyta has developed a unique solid-state fermentation technology for production and bioprocess development of filamentous fungi. The company employs a total staff of approximately 30 full-time employees.
