How to combat fungi and still spare the environment?

There are several ways to combat fungi affecting greenhouse vegetables and still be environment-friendly about it. At least according to Bert van Klink of Bioclimatic. Bioclimatic is a Dutch company specialized in decontamination equipment, using innovative technology to disinfect air, water and various surfaces.

“People may not believe me,” says Bert, “but fungi aren’t the end of the world. By disinfecting the proper way, excellent results can be achieved.” Bioclimatic is one of the suppliers with an extensive and satisfied customer base in this field. "Not too long ago, we visited a pepper grower who was experiencing fungi infections in his crops. We countered the infection by installing a UV-C system. Very often, fungi are invisible to the naked eye. This particular grower was very happy with our solution, because the sustainability of his peppers improved noticeably.”

Another customer often had problems with mould growing on eggplants. Especially on Mondays this proved nasty, as the fungus was able to develop during the weekend, affecting crops in a big way. This grower had his nursery outfitted with ionization equipment, provided by Bioclimatic. The grower was elated: "We did some tests with the infested eggplants. We saw that the fruits were not further damaged by fungus and after a while, the fungus even died. So I would say the results are definitely positive. We would recommend this strategy to anyone coping with quality problems caused by fungal attack.”

Bioclimatic also provides the Viroxx. The Bioclimatic Viroxx is a patented device that uses four steps to completely clean up the air: pre-filtration, photochemical disinfection, catalytic oxidation and bi-polar ionization. With these four steps, the air is completely purged of all (microbiological) contamination. Bert van Klink: "We have already achieved very good results in various laboratories and cleanrooms using the Viroxx. Ionization for example, proved very effective in preventing and combating blight and mould in tomato cooling cells. We offer numerous opportunities for growers and traders to improve the quality and sustainability of their products. There really is a solution to every problem.”
