Canada: Installations extracts pure CO2 from biomassplant

The Dutch company Procede BV developed a special system that allows to win pure CO2 from a biomassplant. Canadian peppergrower SunSelect was the first grower to take the system into opperation. SunSelect heathens his greenhouse with a biomassinstallations that runs on cedar pellets. The new technique enables the peppergrower to extract CO2 from the biomassinstalations exhaust. The CO2 is beeing extracted, and absorbed in liquid. It will be filtered to 'clean' CO2 that the grower uses to fertilize it's crop.

The installation is developed in a joint venture with Canadian company Proselect. The installation is capable to extract five tons of pure CO2 in liquid form. The CO2 will be stored in a buffer tank. The proces is completely automatic. According to Nick Asbroek of Procede there are also opportunities for these bio-CO2 in the Netherlands. As a yardstick he has a working area from 5 ha tomatoes, but the payback is better for larger areas. In the Netherlands, Ten Asbroek sees possibilities in combination with biomass CHP.
