Russia: Lubron supplies russian grower with RO installation

The water treatment plant to tackle a Russian turnkey project involving 8 hectares of tomato crops is being realised by Lubron in the Dutch town of Oosterhout. The project is commissioned by Lubron dealer Hortilife. According to Sam Karreman of Lubron, dealing with Russia demands an entirely different mind-set. “Not just because of dealings with customs, but because of the conditions in Russia. Over there, they just ram a steel pipe into the ground and if they hit water, they call it a well. Fortunately we’ve been working abroad before, so we’re ready to deal with everything.

If all goes well, the parts for the reverse osmosis installation are on their way right now. The destination, Belgogrod, represents a 2,500-kilometre journey involving parts for filtration (iron removal) and the large reverse osmosis plant of 35 m3/hour. And if that weren’t enough, Lubron is also setting up a water treatment plant for a nursery in Moscow.

“The water is different over there,” says Karreman. “It’s not nearly as clean as it is down here. Filtration is of the utmost important. We always check beforehand what conditions we’re dealing with. An analysis like that is indispensable; it’s precisely the kind of thing we see other companies get into trouble with.”

Transportation therefore, is just the beginning. Karreman: “The great thing about this installation is, its remote controllable. We can monitor and command the plant from right here, in Holland!”
